Give Your Matcha a Second Job
No overtime pay, just a better glow.
For those facing their Sunday scaries: it's time to take a step back. No one remembers what you did last night, nobody saw you trip walking up the stairs or running for the bus. It's just you and your matcha face mask now. Time to unwind.
I'll be honest, I got into this because I too was battling some demons last Sunday. Turns out putting matcha on your face instead of in your cup is not just a "wellness girl does something questionable" moment, there's actually something to it. Unfortunately, can confirm the scaries reduction is placebo, but always worth a try.
What's actually in it
Matcha, honey, coconut oil, and tea tree oil. That's it.
That's the whole ingredient list, and you probably already have three of the four sitting in your kitchen right now. Matcha brings the antioxidants, honey and coconut oil do the moisturising, and tea tree oil is there to keep things from getting complicated on the breakout front.
No 12-step routine, no serums with names you can't pronounce. One honest caveat: coconut oil can clog pores on oily or acne-prone skin, so if that's you, swap it for a plain yoghurt or a light facial oil instead.
The mask
- 1 teaspoon Morning Made Unsweetened matcha powder
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil, softened
- 1-2 drops tea tree oil
Tea tree oil can irritate sensitive skin. Mix a small amount and dab it on your inner arm, wait and only put it on your face if no reaction happens.
Mix everything into a paste, smooth it over clean skin, and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes while you pretend you're at a spa and not just avoiding the washing up. Rinse with warm water.
That's the whole ritual. Twenty minutes, one bowl, and you get your Sunday back before Monday even knows you're up.
Until my next questionable idea.
